Rapha House is committed to rescuing young girls who are victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and prostitution by providing them with a safe home where they can heal and receive an education, which will allow them to make good choices for their futures.

The statistics are staggering and tragic.

The U.S. State Department estimates that 1 million children are exploited each year in the global commercial sex trade.* Take a moment to really contemplate that number. 1 million children. Every single year.

When viewed as a whole, we are overwhelmed and stopped in our tracks. However, when these statistics are viewed as individual children, when faces and names are involved, we are moved to protective action.

At Rapha House, we see each girl not as a statistic, but as an individual with hopes and dreams and with great potential to make a difference in the world.

Together, we can fight human trafficking and the sexual exploitation of children one girl at a time.

1 million children... What are WE going to do about this?

For a compelling look at the horrors of the commercial sex trade, the movie "Baht" follows the plight of Sophea, a young woman who is deceived and sold into slavery and prostitution by someone she trusted. Click on this link to see a trailer of "Baht."

Make A Wish

Since 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® has enriched the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its wish-granting work. The Foundation's mission reflects the life-changing impact that a Make-A-Wish® experience has on children, families, referral sources, donors, sponsors and entire communities.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation was founded in 1980 after a little boy named Chris Greicius realized his heartfelt wish to become a police officer. Since its humble beginnings, the organization has blossomed into a worldwide phenomenon, reaching more than 161,000 children around the world.

Although it has become one of the world's most well-known charities, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has maintained the grassroots fulfillment of its mission.

A network of more than 25,000 volunteers enable the Make-A-Wish Foundation to serve children with life-threatening medical conditions. Volunteers serve as wish granters, fundraisers, special events assistants and in numerous other capacities.

As the Foundation continues to mature, its mission will remain steadfast. Wish children of the past, present and future will have an opportunity to share the power of a wish®.

Relay for Life

One person can make a difference. Nowhere is that more evident than with the story of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, which began in Tacoma, Washington, as the City of Destiny Classic 24-Hour Run Against Cancer.

In the mid-1980s, Dr. Gordy Klatt, a Tacoma colorectal surgeon, wanted to enhance the income of his local American Cancer Society office. He decided to personally raise money for the fight by doing something he enjoyed?running marathons.

In May 1985, Dr. Klatt spent a grueling 24 hours circling the track at Baker Stadium at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma for more than 83 miles. Throughout the night, friends paid $25 to run or walk 30 minutes with him. He raised $27,000 to fight cancer. That first year, nearly 300 of Dr. Klatt's friends, family, and patients watched as he ran and walked the course.

While he circled the track those 24 hours, he thought about how others could take part. He envisioned a 24-hour team relay event that could raise more money to fight cancer. Months later he pulled together a small committee to plan the first team relay event known as the City of Destiny Classic 24-Hour Run Against Cancer.

In 1986, 19 teams took part in the first team relay event on the track at the colorful, historical Stadium Bowl and raised $33,000. An indescribable spirit prevailed at the track and in the tents that dotted the infield.

  • Update on RelayForLife.org
  • Over the summer, we have added lots of great material to RelayForLife.org, and plan to offer lots more by the time you start getting in the thick-of-things with your 2010 events.  Our latest additions to the site include the Summit materials, the official implementation of Relay TV (where you can watch Relay videos as they run, or you can watch most of them "on-demand."

We have also updated the Team Captain Toolkit and added a new resource page for Bark For Life.  We've updated the navigation at the top of the page by adding an "outside the track" section, where you can access pages related to Relay, indirectly.

Over the holiday season, we'll be working on an upgrade to RelayForLife.org to the most stable version of our platform, which should add some new functionality and usability to the site.  Stay tuned!

  • Australia Bushfires Claim Two Relay Towns
  • "This past fortnight has been shocking here. We lost a close work colleague and her family; have had two Relay towns burnt to the ground and are hearing so many stories of hardship and horror. Melbourne has been blanketed in smoke for the past week - many of the fires are burning in a one hour radius to the city - so it's very close and a reason why so many deaths - commuter distance to the city. and, unfortunately they are still burning (although now mainly in forests, away from communities),) and the toll will go higher as they only now are sifting through some of the smaller communities impacted by this.

Miguel Gonzales is a citizen of Cuba, one of the five enemy nations in President Bush's " evil axis ". The Nation is being governed by Raul Castro, Fidel's brother. Fidel Castro is extremely ill and fragile.

The Cuban people are impoverished and while they have freedom of religion , all religions are ruled by denominational heads controlled by the government. Gonzales is the founder of over 200 house churches in Cuba and a new seminary that is interdenominational or non denominational.

Gonzales was allowed, by special permission from the State Department to have medical work done by the humanitarian organization RAM(Rick Amato Ministries).

Gonzales was thrilled to meet with Cyntheia Pentiuk.  Cyntheia and her husband Randall were responsible for helping to place over 100,000 Cuban New Testaments an historic event into the Nation of Cuba.

These Testaments were distributed by both the government and the Church and plans are under way right now to print 900,000 more. The Testament is unique in that it is in the Cuban language, a different dialect than Spanish.

Also, there is no mention of any outside National entity as the giver of the gift but simply the words " a gift from your Creator that you may know Him" . It includes the plan of salvation through faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ and confession of His resurrection along with a study of John designed especially for young people.

Rick Amato tells the story of how he was inspired to start the project when after giving a simple gospel of John in Spanish to a middle aged woman she wept openly and profusely. When asked why she stated " I have prayed thirty eight years for one of these books and today my prayer was answered". The testaments printed and shipped from Belarus, a former republic of the Soviet Union are one dollar apiece from start to distribution. " Why should anybody get two Bibles before everybody gets One ? Amato asks.

As for Gonzales, he thanked Cyntheia profusely and said" this is a significant moment in history and we do not know how long the door will be open, we must act now" in his broken English.   To learn more about Gonzales's work or to aid in this effort please call 800-543-WORD or go to http://www.rickamatoministries.com/.
